1. Come Out, Floret
Bloomville lives off perfume, with three schools of scent — floral, honeyed and blended — matching three professions: flower grower, honey farmer and butterfly master. Clovis is a young flower grower. He approaches you with great ceremony as “Clovis III”, grandson of the village’s great flower grower, before dropping the act: he’s just Clovis, and he needs a Pathfinder.
Since his grandfather died, his only friend is Floret, a Budclaw. Among Budclaws, the plant growing on their head reflects how close they are to a partner. Floret only had a small bud; after a nap in the sun, it woke up with a whole garden on its back. Its suitors now keep away, so it sulks and refuses to come out of the ground. Clovis is counting on the Irises, plant specialists, and asks you to gather six different forms.
When you come back with the collection, one of the Irises confesses: while looking for a place to dance, its group mistook Floret for a rock with a bud growing out of it, and encouraged it to bloom. The Iris only meant to celebrate life. Clovis doesn’t hold it against them. He reassures Floret, promises to stay with it forever, then tells you how they met: on the day his grandfather died, he was crying behind a rock when the little bud sitting on it started to move. As thanks, he gives you a seed. Floret stays single, but it is no longer alone.
