1. Warrior

Beast Fang Ridge has lost its flame. Legend says that when the greatest fighters pass away, their bones become Ridgeback Trees. Generations of warriors formed Thousand-Fang Ridge this way, and when it bloomed it burned like an everlasting flame. But Icho, the strongest Scorchhowl, left, and the fire went out with him. The trees are withering, and Inferlupas remain trapped there with no will left to fight.

It all starts with an Emberpup rumor: a “flying head” haunts the woods. The trail leads you to a jaded Inferlupa, who tells you to come back in the daytime to face real fighters, then humors you with a duel anyway. Around the campfire, the Emberpups tell a legend each night while someone listens in secret.

  • First night: the legend of the Lost Warrior, a very strong Flameruff with no sense of direction, who left for Thousand-Fang Ridge and never came back. His daughter, the Strongest Emberpup, is still waiting for him.
  • Second night: the legend of the Undefeated Warrior, a Flameruff with a hundred wins in a row. The eavesdropper turns out to be the Inferlupa: its souls wonder why they still fight, and one of them decides to try again, because his daughter is waiting.
  • Third night: the Flameruff Leader tells the legend of the Immortal Warrior, the old leader he defeated long ago. The Inferlupa reveals itself: its three souls are the Lost Warrior, the Immortal Warrior and the Undefeated Warrior, who challenged Icho a hundred times and lost a hundred times. He accepts the idea of one more defeat, because the next victory is still out there waiting.

You face the Inferlupa in a true final battle. With the last blow, its fighting spirit sets Thousand-Fang Ridge ablaze again: the Ridgeback Trees bloom once more. The three warriors understand that you become a true fighter by carrying on through the darkest times. They turn down your invitation to travel together and head off to see the world.

Step by step

  1. At night, near the dead forest, uncover the truth about the “flying head”: defeat the Inferlupa, then talk to it.
  2. Ask the campfire Emberpups about the Inferlupa, and join the night talk.
  3. Wait until tomorrow: the game asks for one real day.
  4. Look for clues about the eavesdropper, then find them.
  5. Talk to the Scared Emberpup. To track down the Fragrant Emberpup, Twine with an Emberpup: their keen nose lets you follow its scent.
  6. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call: he asks you to come back to the Outpost, because Icho wants to see you.
  7. Ask about the Inferlupa again and join the night talk, then wait one more real day.
  8. Third night: hear the last legend, find the eavesdropper again, then fight and defeat the Inferlupa. Talk to it to wrap up.

Section rewards: 1,000 Safaris, 30 Glimmer, 30,000 Credits, 30 Sparkling Crystals, 3 Blaze Stones.

2. Fists I

At the Outpost, Icho senses that your battles have changed you. Dr. Lewis’s partner works for the Polaris Institute too, and sometimes fills in for the instructor. He offers you a private lesson: find the meaning of combat. For him, the answer is combat itself, and yours lies in the legends of Beast Fang Ridge.

Once Thousand-Fang Ridge is in bloom, Icho shares his secret. Great warriors become Ridgeback Trees that bloom through fighting spirit, and that spirit never dies. Legend says the last Icho never lost among the Ridgeback Trees. Yet Icho admits that an “Outsider” with iron fists beat him: Dr. Lewis. They fought 99 times, and Icho lost 99 times. He followed him to grow stronger and come back for the hundredth fight.

Step by step

  1. Go see Icho to hear his request.
  2. Explore Beast Fang Ridge to find the meaning of the Warrior: that’s the Warrior quest, which you need to have finished.
  3. Discuss the meaning of battle with Icho.

Section rewards: 600 Safaris, 30 Glimmer, 7,500 Credits, 50 Breezy Plains Dewdrop Crystals.

3. Fists II

What kind of past is Icho hiding? The natives of Beast Fang Ridge know a thing or two. You face three opponents, then come back to tell Icho their stories: the Alpha Scorchhowl, a true warrior who followed his own path; the Recas, the little Bonesky who used to call him “Master Icho” and has grown up; and the Ghost Glynsera, one of his greatest rivals, left trapped under the ice.

Icho recalls how he became the strongest, then how victory, grown too easy, lost its meaning, until he met Lewis. He says the path of the strong leads only to a lonely death; Dr. Lewis replies that he won’t die alone, not before beating him.

Step by step

  1. Defeat the Alpha Scorchhowl. The clue “Legends of Beast Fang Ridge” says it trains beneath the tallest Ridgeback Tree.
  2. Defeat the Alpha Glynsera, the honor-scarred Recas of the ice cave.
  3. Defeat the Glynsera in Nighttime Form: the Ghost Glynsera turns feral at night in the ice cave.
  4. Talk to Icho about the legend of Beast Fang Ridge.

Section rewards: 1,000 Safaris, 30 Glimmer, 15,000 Credits, 30 Sparkling Crystals, 3 Blaze Stones.

4. A Fragrant Journey: Beast Fang Ridge

In Bloomville, perfumer Ranka spends his days lying around. He dreams of making a legendary perfume from the Flareburst Flowers of the Ridgeback Trees, but they haven’t bloomed in years. After a hundred failed attempts with other ingredients, he gave up. He asks you to find his partner, a rather dazed Emberpup.

It’s the Fragrant Emberpup of Beast Fang Ridge: it came to make the trees bloom again for its friend. Once Thousand-Fang Ridge is burning again, it wants to fight its very first battle before heading home, and hands you a Flareburst Flower for Ranka. Moved, Ranka gets back to work: on his 101st try, he finally makes Heartfire Orange, one of the legendary perfumes of the Fragrant Dream.

Step by step

  1. Find Ranka in Bloomville (clue “A Perfumer Lying on the Ground”).
  2. Find his Emberpup on Beast Fang Ridge.
  3. Help the Fragrant Emberpup get the Flareburst Flowers: you need to finish Warrior.
  4. Talk to the Fragrant Emberpup, then deliver its reply to Ranka.
  5. Give the Flareburst Flowers to Ranka, then talk to him.

Section rewards: 600 Safaris, 1 Heartfire Orange, 30 Glimmer, 7,500 Credits, 50 Breezy Plains Dewdrop Crystals.
