Prismana, Sparkling, Umbrabow, Alpha, Perfect: stop mixing them up
These are independent axes. The form (Prismana, Thunderstorm, Nighttime, regional) tells you which version of the species you are looking at. The Sparkling mutation is a glow layered on top. Umbral is a wild-Aniimo state with always-Perfect potential, whose look is lost on evolution. Umbrabow, despite the name, belongs to Sparkling. And an Alpha is a field boss.
On this page
The same words come up again and again in chat, and they mean different things: form, Sparkling, Umbral, Umbrabow, potential, Alpha. Mixing them up is expensive — a Sparkling Cube burned on a common creature because someone thought it was a Prismana happens every day.
Here is how the client files these ideas, and what stacks.
The table that settles it
| The word | What it is | Where you see it | Stacks with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Form | Which version of the species you are facing | Label under the name, and the forms tab in the Aniilog | The Sparkling mutation, potential |
| Sparkling | A glow layered over the form | Dedicated filter in the Aniilog | Every form, potential |
| Umbral | A wild-Aniimo state: innate potential always Perfect | A modifier shown on the capture screen | Area and weather variants — but the look is lost on evolution |
| Umbrabow | A rare Sparkling variety, dark-toned | Dedicated filter, its own collection entries | Forms, Prismana included |
| Potential | The quality of the stat roll | Attributes screen (Perfect, Elite…) | Everything else |
| Alpha | A field boss of a species | On the map and in combat | Unrelated to the others |
1. Form: 19 forms on file
The client lists 19 form types. They decide the base look and the skills:
- Basic — the ordinary version.
- Regional forms — Highland, Mountain Woods, Mudflat, Beach, Bay, Mountain, Sea of Flowers, Forest, Grassland, Plateau, Cloudmist, Towerwood.
- Weather forms — Thunderstorm, Rainstorm Form, Snowfield.
- Time form — Nighttime.
- Prismana — the top entry on the list.
Two consequences follow.
Prismana is a form, not a mutation. That is why the Prismana Orb can toggle an Aniimo into its Prismana variant once it has unlocked that form in the Breezy Plains, keeping its innate potentials, traits and personality.
“Rainstorm Turbo” is not a different Aniimo. It is the same species under its weather form. You find it by hunting the species in the right weather, not by hunting a different creature. That is the subject of our guide on finding any Aniimo.
2. Sparkling: twelve types, two of them hidden
The Sparkling mutation is a signature glow. The client defines twelve types, which answers a question people keep asking — do two Sparkling of the same species glow the same way?
- Sparkling Types I to X — the Aniimology classifies each variant into a type within its family. Two Sparkling of the same species do not necessarily look alike.
- Type XI — Dazzling Sparkling: a “hidden Sparkling variant that emits a special bright-toned sparkling effect”. The client flags it as rare.
- Type XII — Shadow Sparkling: the same thing “dark-toned”. Also flagged rare.
3. Umbral and Umbrabow: two words, two things
This is the costliest vocabulary trap in the game, and it caught us too. Umbral and Umbrabow are not the same thing.
Umbral: a state, with guaranteed Perfect potential
The game defines it outright:
Affected by concentrated Vein energy, Innate Potential is always Perfect. After evolution or transformation, the Umbral appearance disappears.
Three very concrete consequences:
- A wild Umbral Aniimo is always at Perfect potential. That is the best reason not to let it get away.
- The state is visible before the catch: “Umbral” is one of the modifiers shown on the capture screen, alongside “Stunned” or “BREAK”.
- The look is lost on evolution and on form change. The game asks for confirmation: “After evolution, the Vein energy surrounding your Aniimo will dissipate and its Umbral appearance will vanish. Confirm evolution?” The same warning exists for a form change. The players saying “it loses its colour if you evolve it” were right.
Umbrabow: a rare Sparkling variety
Umbrabow is a different label, with its own filter, its own collection entries (“New Umbrabow Aniimo Species”), its own eggs, and even a dedicated combat buff — “Umbrabow Slayer”. Its tooltip, however, talks about “special effects of sparkling body”.
In other words: Umbrabow belongs to Sparkling, not to Umbral. Everything points to it being hidden Sparkling type XII, Shadow Sparkling — same family of effects, same dark icon. We present this as a reading of the files, not as a studio statement.
What the texts establish besides:
- A Giant Umbrabow Egg nest exists on the Lost Isles, and only there can you dig up an Umbrabow egg.
- Some hatching labels guarantee an Umbrabow Aniimo, others increase the chance.
- The title earned by completing the Breezy Plains collection makes Sparkling and Umbral Aniimo appear 50% more often in that region.
- Umbral Aniimo can be traded between friends, at the same tier as area and weather variants.
4. Potential: nothing to do with looks
Potential (Perfect, Elite…) is the quality of the stat roll. A perfectly ordinary Aniimo can be Perfect; a Prismana can be Elite. The two are independent.
What the items guarantee, word for word:
| Item | What it guarantees |
|---|---|
| Aniipod Ultra | Successful capture, and potential at least Elite |
| Sparkling Cube | Successful capture, Perfect potential, and an Aniimo that is always Sparkling. On an already-Perfect Aniimo, it raises the chance that innate potential for the recommended attributes exceeds 8 |
That answers “should I use an Aniipod Ultra on every Alpha?”: the Ultra is not there to land a capture on a common, it is there to lock in Elite potential on a target you intend to keep.
5. Alpha: a boss, not a variant
An Alpha is a field boss of a given species. It is neither a form nor a mutation: it is an encounter. Some are scripted and cannot be caught. Our pages list them under Alpha and Omega bosses, with their location and mechanics.
Watch out for one common trap: several evolutions require defeating a specific Alpha. There, the boss is what counts, not a wild specimen of the same species.
6. What stacks
The most useful part to remember:
- Prismana form + Sparkling mutation: yes, confirmed. One in-game objective asks you to “own 1 Sparkling Prismana Luminelle”, and the Sparkling Pigment “can only be used on a Sparkling Prismana Aniimo”. The Mysterious Prismana Egg adds that a Sparkling Cube used on it “may grant the Shadow Sparkling mutation”.
- Umbral + area or weather variant: yes. The friend trading tiers explicitly mention “area-variant and weather-variant regular and Umbral Aniimo”.
- Umbral + Prismana form: no, it is one or the other. Mixed eggs say “either… or”: “guaranteed to hatch into either an Umbral Aniimo or a Prismana Form Aniimo”.
- Umbral + Sparkling: unknown. The game texts treat them as two separate categories without ever saying whether they stack. To be tested in game.
- Anything + Perfect potential: yes — and an Umbral Aniimo has it by default.
- Alpha + the rest: unrelated.

Frequently asked questions
Can an Aniimo be Prismana and Sparkling at the same time?
Yes. The Mysterious Prismana Egg says that using a Sparkling Cube on it may grant the Shadow Sparkling mutation: Prismana form and the Sparkling mutation stack.
Are Dazzling Sparkling and Shadow Sparkling separate variants?
No. They are the two hidden Sparkling types, numbered XI and XII out of the twelve the game defines. The client flags them as rare, but they are still Sparkling variants.
Does the Sparkling Cube guarantee Perfect potential?
Yes. Its in-game effect states that catching is guaranteed, potential is Perfect, and the Aniimo will always be Sparkling.
Can you make an already-caught Aniimo Sparkling?
A Sparkling Mark exists: the game describes it as holding "the special energy needed to grant an Aniimo the Sparkling mutation". The Sparkling Cube, by contrast, acts at capture time or on an egg.
Is an Umbral Aniimo always Perfect?
Yes. The game states that, affected by concentrated Vein energy, an Umbral Aniimo's innate potential is always Perfect.
Does evolving remove the Umbral look?
Yes, and the game warns you before confirming: after an evolution or a form change, the Vein energy dissipates and the Umbral appearance vanishes. The Perfect potential stays.
Is a Prismana stronger than a normal one?
The Prismana Orb, which toggles an Aniimo into its Prismana variant, states that it keeps innate potentials, traits and personality. Nothing in the game texts claims higher stats for the Prismana form.
